About Melkweg

Melkweg (Milky Way) is Amsterdam's most versatile cultural venue, housed in a converted dairy factory just a few steps from Paradiso on Leidseplein. The complex includes two concert halls, a cinema, a gallery, a café, and a club space, making it a true multi-arts destination. Melkweg's programming is exceptionally diverse, spanning live music across all genres, electronic club nights, film screenings, and art exhibitions. It is one of the cornerstones of Amsterdam's cultural identity.

History

Opened in 1970 in a former dairy factory, Melkweg was established as a cultural centre for Amsterdam's youth. Like Paradiso, it emerged from the city's hippie movement and has evolved continuously over five decades. The venue's commitment to diversity and experimentation has kept it relevant across generations.
