Club Lazareti occupies a remarkable complex of 16th-century buildings that served as Dubrovnik's quarantine facility — one of the first in Europe — where travellers and goods from the east were held before entering the Republic of Ragusa. Today this extraordinary architectural heritage provides the setting for Dubrovnik's most adventurous and culturally engaged nightlife venue. The complex hosts electronic music nights in its atmospheric stone courtyards, live concerts in its vaulted halls, and serves as a year-round arts and culture centre. Lazareti is beloved by locals as an authentic alternative to the tourist-facing bars of the Old Town, maintaining genuine cultural credibility that its extraordinary setting alone could not guarantee.
Lazareti has functioned as a cultural and entertainment venue since 1991 when Dubrovnik's independent cultural organisations began using the long-neglected complex. Its activation has been one of the most successful examples of heritage building reuse in Croatia, providing a model for the adaptive use of historical structures across the country.
