Dame de Canton is Marseille's answer to Bristol's Thekla — a converted Chinese junk moored at the Old Port that has been operating as a live music and events venue since 2006. History
Dame de Canton was originally a Chinese river boat that was transported to France and moored at the Vieux Port in 2006. Its extraordinary backstory — sailing from China to Marseille — mirrors the Mediterranean city's own history as a trading port at the crossroads of civilisations.
