Tipitina's is one of the most important music venues in American history — a New Orleans institution since 1977 that has hosted the full spectrum of Louisiana music: jazz, rhythm and blues, zydeco, funk, and rock in all their forms. Named after a Professor Longhair song, the venue operates as a genuine community institution, hosting free community events and music education programmes alongside its regular concert schedule. History
Tipitina's was founded in 1977 specifically to provide a venue for Professor Longhair, whose career had stalled despite his legendary status in New Orleans music.
