Where trance was born and the beach party never ends
Goa is the mythical birthplace of psychedelic trance music, a place where decades-old full-moon beach parties have spawned a global musical genre and an enduring counterculture. The north Goa beaches of Anjuna, Vagator and Arambol remain the spiritual home of outdoor raving in Asia, while south Goa's more relaxed Palolem and Agonda host smaller sunset parties and beach bonfires. The season runs from November through March, when warm evenings and a global mix of travellers combine for unforgettable nights under the stars.

Anjuna and Vagator in north Goa are the epicentres of outdoor beach parties, with Hilltop and Curlies hosting regular events. Baga and Calangute have a more commercial strip-club scene, while Arambol is the preferred spot for a more bohemian, low-key atmosphere.
Hilltop in Vagator is legendary for marathon outdoor psytrance parties that run through the night. Curlies in Anjuna has decades of history as the original rave beach shack. Club Cabana in Arpora is one of north Goa's biggest mainstream venues, and SinQ in Calangute hosts celebrity DJ nights.
Full-moon and special outdoor parties in Goa often run non-stop from dusk through the following day. Licensed beach clubs technically close at midnight, but enforcement is inconsistent and music continues well past official hours at many venues during peak season.
The peak party season is December and January, when the biggest outdoor festivals, full-moon parties and international DJ bookings converge. Christmas and New Year in Goa are legendary. The shoulder months of November and February/March offer great parties with fewer crowds and lower prices.
