Bùi Viện Street never sleeps — Southeast Asia's most electric 24/7 city
Ho Chi Minh City — still Saigon to most of its residents — is one of Southeast Asia's most relentlessly energetic cities, a 24/7 metropolis where the nightlife starts in the late afternoon with rooftop happy hours and doesn't stop until long after sunrise. Bùi Viện Walking Street is the city's legendary backpacker bar zone, a neon-drenched stretch of open-front bars and clubs that typifies the Vietnamese approach to partying: loud, friendly and completely uninhibited. The upscale expat enclaves of Thảo Điền and District 3 offer a more sophisticated cocktail bar experience, while the city's Vietnamese nightlife scene in Phú Nhuận and Bình Thạnh is authentic, affordable and deeply welcoming to curious visitors.

Bùi Viện Walking Street in District 1 is the undisputed nightlife hub for international visitors — a pedestrianised street of back-to-back bars playing everything from EDM to reggae. Thảo Điền in District 2 is the expat neighbourhood with upscale cocktail bars and rooftop lounges. For authentic local nightlife, District 3 around Võ Văn Tần Street and Hai Bà Trưng has excellent Vietnamese bars and clubs.
Broma Not A Bar in District 1 is HCMC's most celebrated cocktail bar and late-night venue with excellent DJs. Envy Club in Bến Thành is a high-energy nightclub popular with locals and visitors. Skybar at Bitexco Financial Tower offers extraordinary views and a glamorous atmosphere. Observatory is the top choice for serious electronic music in a proper club setting.
Vietnamese authorities officially require bars and clubs to close at 2 am, but enforcement varies considerably — many venues operate through to 4–5 am with paid security arrangements, and some after-hours venues run until dawn. Bùi Viện bars routinely operate well past 2 am. The city's reputation as a nightlife destination that 'never sleeps' is largely accurate.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of Asia's best-value nightlife destinations. Street beer (bia hơi) costs as little as €0.30, bar beers €1–2, and cocktails at mid-range venues €3–5. Even the most upscale rooftop bars charge reasonable prices by Western standards. Club entry is usually free or a nominal charge for major events. Budget for €15–30 for a full night including food and drinks.
