About The Showbox

The Showbox is one of America's most beloved historic music venues, a 1,100-capacity concert hall in downtown Seattle that has hosted performers from Duke Ellington to Nirvana. The venue's Art Deco interior, historic significance and central location make it the premier destination for touring artists who want to play a room with genuine character and history. It remains the standard against which all other Seattle music venues are measured.

History

The Showbox opened in 1939 on First Avenue as a dance hall and has since been a constant in Seattle's cultural life, surviving numerous near-demolitions and ownership changes to remain one of the Pacific Northwest's most important and beloved music institutions. Its survival has been the subject of one of Seattle's fiercest preservation battles.
