About Levist Väljas

Levist Väljas — 'Out of Range' in Estonian — is the most beloved institution in Tallinn's alternative music scene, a scrappy and spirited bar in Kalamaja that has nurtured Estonian indie, punk, and underground music for nearly two decades. The bar's small stage has hosted virtually every significant Estonian alternative act at some point in their career, alongside a steady programme of international touring bands. The atmosphere is resolutely unpretentious, with cheap beer, mismatched furniture, and a crowd that spans students, musicians, and veterans of the Estonian underground scene. Levist Väljas is the living proof that the best music bars are built on passion rather than production budgets.

History

Levist Väljas opened in 2007 in the working-class Kalamaja neighbourhood when the area was still genuinely rough around the edges. As Kalamaja gentrified around it, the bar maintained its alternative identity, becoming a beloved anchor for the neighbourhood's original creative community.
