The Power & Light Entertainment District is Kansas City's most ambitious nightlife development, a 5,000-person-capacity complex in the heart of downtown that combines multiple indoor and outdoor venues, bars, restaurants, and entertainment spaces into a self-contained evening destination. The district was developed with the SPRINT Center arena as its anchor and has become the default gathering place for Kansas City's young professional and sports fan communities, particularly on game nights when the surrounding area becomes one of the most energetic downtown entertainment zones in the Midwest. The complex's scale allows it to programme across musical genres simultaneously, with DJ-driven EDM and hip-hop nights in the club spaces running alongside live music events and the outdoor areas that become impromptu dance floors when the weather permits.
The Power & Light District opened in 2008 as a major civic investment in downtown Kansas City's revitalisation, developed in conjunction with the Sprint Center arena and designed to create year-round entertainment activity in a previously underutilised part of downtown. The district's success has been central to Kansas City's wider downtown renaissance over the subsequent decade and a half.
