The Midland is one of Kansas City's most spectacular venues, a 3,200-capacity concert hall housed in a meticulously restored 1927 movie palace that brings together a century of Kansas City's entertainment history and the demands of contemporary live music in a setting of extraordinary architectural grandeur. The theatre's original gilded plasterwork, towering ceilings, and detailed ornamental programme create a visual experience that amplifies every performance it hosts, whether a rock concert, an EDM event, or a solo acoustic show. The sound and production infrastructure has been modernised to professional touring standards without compromising the historic fabric of the building, creating one of the most satisfying large-capacity live music experiences in the Midwest. The Midland is a genuine Kansas City landmark.
The Midland opened in 1927 as one of Kansas City's grand movie palaces during the golden age of American theatre construction. After periods of cinema operation and eventual closure, it was comprehensively restored and reopened as a concert venue in 2011. Its restoration is considered one of the finest examples of adaptive reuse in Kansas City's history, preserving a magnificent building while giving it a new cultural purpose.
