Clifton's Republic is one of Downtown Los Angeles's most historically significant entertainment venues. The building has been a cafeteria, a gathering place for the city's creative community, and — since its 2015 reopening — a multi-floor entertainment complex spanning five floors. The Brookdale Ballroom on the top floor hosts swing dancing, live music, and special events, while the lower floors contain bars, a tiki lounge, and a speakeasy. Clifton's is a genuine Los Angeles institution.
The original Clifton's Cafeteria opened in 1935 and became a beloved institution for Angelenos of all backgrounds. After decades of decline, the building was purchased and renovated by Andrew Meieran, reopening in 2015 as Clifton's Republic. The renovation preserved much of the original character while adding new entertainment spaces.
