Sachsenhausen is Frankfurt's most atmospheric nightlife area, with an apple-wine (Apfelwein) pub culture on Schweizer Strasse and clubs along the riverbanks. The Bahnhofsviertel near the central station is the destination for underground and electronic nights. Bornheim has a more neighbourhood-bar feel popular with locals.

Robert Johnson across the river in Offenbach is one of Germany's most legendary techno clubs. Cocoon Club (now Club Michel) was a pioneering Frankfurt venue. Frankfurt's Museumsufer Festival in late August turns the riverbanks into a massive outdoor party with music stages and bars. The Christmas markets in December also come with a lively bar scene, and the city's trade fair calendar (Messe Frankfurt) brings thousands of international visitors throughout the year, keeping nightlife demand consistently high.
