About Chapeau Rouge

Chapeau Rouge is one of Prague's most enduring nightlife institutions, a three-floor venue in the heart of the Old Town that has attracted students, tourists, and locals alike since 1993. Each floor offers a different musical experience, from underground electronic sounds in the basement to commercial hip-hop and R&B upstairs, making it one of Prague's most versatile venues. The central location means it draws a more mixed international crowd than the city's underground venues, but maintains genuine energy and reasonable prices. Chapeau Rouge has survived multiple economic crises and tourism booms to remain a reliable fixture on Prague's nightlife map.

History

Chapeau Rouge opened in 1993, just four years after the Velvet Revolution, and quickly became one of the first genuinely cosmopolitan nightlife venues in post-communist Prague. Its central location and affordable prices made it accessible to a generation of young Czechs discovering Western club culture for the first time. The venue has maintained its three-floor format through multiple renovations.
