Canto da Ema is one of São Paulo's most beloved cultural institutions, a small venue in Pinheiros that has been keeping the traditions of forró and Brazilian popular music alive since 1993. The venue is a world away from the electronic clubs of Barra Funda — here, live bands play traditional northeastern Brazilian music, couples dance forró, and the atmosphere is warm, festive, and deeply rooted in Brazilian culture. Canto da Ema represents an important counterpoint to the internationalised electronic scene, celebrating what makes Brazilian nightlife uniquely Brazilian.
Canto da Ema opened in 1993 and has been a consistent presence in Pinheiros for over three decades. The venue has survived the rise and fall of countless trends to remain one of São Paulo's most authentic and beloved nightlife destinations.
