Praça da Liberdade
Cine Joia is one of São Paulo's most beautiful and distinctive nightlife venues, housed in a lovingly restored 1940s cinema in the Praça da Liberdade neighbourhood. The venue retains much of the original cinema's ornate architecture — decorative plasterwork, tiered seating areas, and a grand stage — while incorporating a modern sound system and lighting rig. The programming is eclectic, spanning electronic music, indie, alternative, and live performances, making Cine Joia a cultural hub rather than a pure nightclub.
The building dates from the 1940s when it operated as a neighbourhood cinema. After decades of disuse, it was restored and reopened as a music venue in 2011. The project was praised for its sensitive restoration of the original architecture while creating a world-class performance space.
