Inferno is one of São Paulo's oldest and most historically significant nightlife venues, having operated since 1983. The club is the spiritual home of Brazil's goth, industrial, and alternative music scenes, and has played a crucial role in the development of Brazilian rock culture. Inferno has hosted countless bands that went on to become major figures in Brazilian music, and its dark, atmospheric interior — black walls, red lighting, and industrial decor — has remained largely unchanged over four decades.
Inferno opened in 1983 during Brazil's post-dictatorship cultural explosion, becoming a haven for the alternative youth of São Paulo. The club helped nurture the Brazilian goth and industrial scenes and has outlasted dozens of competitors to remain one of the city's most beloved institutions.
