Barutana is situated inside the ancient powder magazine of Kalemegdan fortress, creating one of the most dramatically located club venues in Europe. The open-air space, surrounded by medieval walls at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, provides a setting that transforms any party into something approaching the mythological. Summer nights at Barutana are a Belgrade institution, drawing thousands of locals and international visitors for electronic music events under the stars. The combination of historical grandeur and contemporary electronic music creates a uniquely Belgrade experience.
Barutana — the name means 'powder magazine' in Serbian — began hosting events in the early 2000s, capitalising on the fortress's existing infrastructure. The venue became one of the anchors of Belgrade's explosive summer nightlife scene that emerged in the mid-2000s. Its spectacular setting has made it one of the most photographed and internationally recognised club venues in the Balkans.
