Alquímico is one of the world's great cocktail bars, a multi-floor colonial mansion in Cartagena's Walled City that has appeared on World's 50 Best Bars list and helped establish Colombia as a serious destination for cocktail culture. The bar's programme is rooted in Colombian and Caribbean botanicals — aguardiente, ron de Indias, local fruits, tropical herbs — interpreted through a sophisticated, post-modern cocktail lens. The 1940s mansion's three floors each offer a distinct character: a ground-floor bar, a tropical garden floor, and a rooftop terrace that looks across the terracotta rooftops of the Walled City. Alquímico represents the high-water mark of Cartagena's extraordinary hospitality renaissance.
Alquímico was established in 2015 by Jean Trinh and the Alquímico collective, who recognised Cartagena's colonial architecture and tropical ingredients as raw materials for world-class cocktail culture. Its rapid rise on international bar rankings brought global attention to Colombia's cocktail scene and transformed the careers of several Colombian bartenders.
