VEGA occupies a beautifully preserved 1956 Social Democratic People's Palace in Vesterbro and has been Copenhagen's most prestigious concert and club venue since its opening in 1996. The building's two concert halls — Store Vega (1,500 capacity) and Lille Vega (500 capacity) — host everything from major international pop concerts to underground electronic club nights, with the architectural setting lending every event a sense of occasion. The outdoor Ideal Bar provides a more intimate space for smaller artists, while the venue's design heritage makes it one of the most architecturally significant music spaces in Scandinavia.
The VEGA building was constructed in 1956 as a working-class social centre by the Copenhagen Social Democratic Party. After years of varied use, it was transformed into a music venue in 1996, with the sensitive renovation preserving the original architecture while creating modern concert facilities. Its immediate success established it as Copenhagen's premier large venue.
