Kødbyen (the Meatpacking District) in Vesterbro is Copenhagen's most exciting nightlife zone — disused slaughterhouse buildings converted into clubs and bars including Culture Box, Jolene and Bakken. Nørrebro's Jægersborggade is one of the city's best bar streets for craft drinks and live music. For something more central, the Latin Quarter in Indre By has an excellent concentration of bars and small clubs.

Culture Box in Indre By is Copenhagen's most respected electronic music club — a multi-room venue with the city's best sound system and impeccable bookings. Jolene in Vesterbro is the coolest alternative — a bar that transforms into a club with minimal, house and techno. Rust in Nørrebro is the city's best venue for live music and indie nights. VEGA is the premier concert venue that also hosts club nights.

Copenhagen has some of Scandinavia's most club-friendly opening hours — venues are licensed until 5 am, and the best clubs routinely operate close to that time. Vesterbro's clubs fill between midnight and 1 am and peak around 2–3 am. The Danish approach to nightlife tends to be later-starting and longer-running than many European cities, with a pre-gaming culture (vorspiel) that pushes club arrivals to the small hours.

Copenhagen is one of Europe's most expensive cities for nightlife. A beer in a bar costs €7–10, cocktails €14–18, and club entry €10–20. Budget for €60–100 for a full night including food, drinks and entry. That said, many of the city's best experiences — craft beer bars in Nørrebro, outdoor summer festivals — are more affordable, and the quality is consistently very high. Pre-drinking before clubs (vorspiel) is both culturally normal and financially sensible.
