About Ministry of Sound

Ministry of Sound is one of the most recognisable nightclub brands in the world. The Elephant and Castle venue — founded in 1991 by Justin Berkmann and Humphrey Waterhouse — was inspired by New York's Paradise Garage and quickly became the home of UK house music. The Box, the main room, is famous for its exceptional sound system and geometric LED lighting installation. Ministry of Sound has since expanded into a global music brand, but the London club remains the spiritual home of the operation.

History

Founded in 1991, Ministry of Sound was one of the first clubs in the UK to focus exclusively on house music. The venue's early residents included Tony Humphries and Larry Heard, and it played a crucial role in bringing American house music to British audiences. The Ministry of Sound record label — launched in 1993 — became one of the most successful dance music labels in the world.
