Medieval squares, cellar bars and Poland's most atmospheric night out
Kraków is one of Europe's most underrated nightlife cities — a beautifully preserved medieval capital where centuries-old cellars have been converted into atmospheric bars and clubs that stay open until the early hours. The Kazimierz district, once the heart of Kraków's Jewish quarter, is now the city's bohemian nightlife epicentre, with dozens of bars packed into a few compact streets. The vast Rynek Główny (Market Square) is surrounded by pubs and cocktail bars that pull in a lively mix of students, locals and international visitors, creating an energy that belies the city's historic setting.

Kazimierz is Kraków's nightlife heart — the streets around Plac Nowy are lined with bars that fill with a mixed local and international crowd every evening. The Old Town's Rynek Główny (Market Square) has excellent bars in and around it. For underground clubs and electronic music, Podgórze across the river and the Nowa Huta district offer the most interesting alternative venues.
Prozak 2.0 beneath the Market Square is Kraków's most famous club — a multi-room electronic music venue popular with students and visitors alike. Shakers Club is a long-standing favourite for commercial house and hip-hop. Rdza in Kazimierz is the best choice for alternative music and a local crowd. For jazz, Harris Piano Jazz Bar on the Market Square is a Kraków institution.
Kraków clubs typically close between 3 am and 5 am on weekends, with bars in Kazimierz often staying open until 4 am. The city has a younger university population that keeps things lively well into the early hours. Some venues have extended licenses and operate beyond 5 am on special occasions.
Kraków is one of Europe's top stag and hen party destinations, as well as being excellent for any kind of group weekend. The combination of outstanding food, beautiful architecture, affordable prices and a lively bar scene makes it exceptionally rewarding. A beer costs €1.50–3 and cocktails €4–7, making it one of Europe's best-value party cities. The Kazimierz bar crawl is a must for any group visit.
