FAC 251 occupies the former offices and rehearsal space of Factory Records — the label that gave the world Joy Division, New Order, and the Haçienda — creating an extraordinary connection between Manchester's legendary musical past and its present. The venue's multiple spaces, spread across three floors of the historic building, host everything from live shows to club nights, with programming that reflects the city's broad musical identity. FAC 251 is as much a pilgrimage site as a functioning venue, attracting music tourists from around the world who want to stand in the rooms where Manchester's musical history was made.
The building on Princess Street was home to Factory Records from its 1970s founding through to the label's bankruptcy in 1992. FAC 251 opened in 2010, transforming the vacant building into an active music venue while carefully preserving its cultural heritage. The venue's name follows the Factory Records tradition of assigning catalogue numbers to everything, with FAC 251 being the original registration for the building.
