Piper is one of the oldest clubs in Europe, a Roman institution that has been operating since 1965 when it opened as Italy's first discotheque in the Parioli neighbourhood. The club launched the careers of numerous Italian pop stars and was at the epicentre of Rome's Swinging Sixties scene. Today Piper continues to operate as a mixed-format venue with a programme that includes electronic nights, pop events, and LGBTQ+ parties. Its longevity is remarkable in an industry where few venues last a decade, let alone six.
Piper opened in 1965, immediately becoming Rome's most fashionable meeting point and a launching pad for Italian pop music. Artists including Patty Pravo and Caterina Caselli became stars through their performances here. The venue has reinvented itself multiple times over six decades while preserving its status as Rome's most historically significant club.
